Doctrine&Life

Many times in our churches we place a heavy emphasis on “the how” of Christian living.  We think that what people need (want) to hear are neatly wrapped sermons filled with practical advice on how to live better lives.  The outcome of this are sermons filled with personal anecdotes, feel good stories and top ten lists.  These can be good and helpful, but if we shy away from also teaching doctrine, then we aren’t examining “the why” for Christian living behind “the how.”  It is Doctrine – The Teachings of Scripture – that reveal to us the reasons why we are to live as Christ lived.  Teaching practice without doctrine will merely produce weak-minded Christians who have only snacked on the milk of Scripture.

Of couse, we can also err on the other side by only teaching doctrine and leaving out practical application.  The end result of this can be a hard-hearted congregation filled with biblical head knowledge but no desire or direction on how to live it out.  Therefore, there must be a marriage of Doctrine and Life in our teaching.

This Sunday at Community Life Church we will begin a new sermon series called Doctrine&Life.  Our goal is to feast on the meat of Scripture and examine what the Bible teaches about Itself, God, Jesus, The Holy Spirt, Humanity, Salvation, Ministry and The Church and what the truths about each of these mean for our Life – and how we should live in response.  We pray that as we study the doctrines of Scripture together, we will see both why and how we are to live as God intends for us too.

Communion

During our Worship Gathering this Sunday we will come around the table and proclaim the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we partake of the elements together.  Paul gives strict warning in 1 Corinthians 11:27-34 to believers in how they should prepare for and approach this sacred time.  We want to encourage each of you to spend time in this passage before Sunday and apply it’s teaching to your life.  Spend time in self-examination, confession and repentance.  Seek forgiveness from those you’ve offended and offer forgiveness to those who have wronged you.  Prepare to participate in this time with the same sacrificial and “others-first” attitude that Jesus exhibited on the cross.

May Gd be honored and glorified in our time of worship and remembrance.

What’s So Good About Friday?

Easter @ CLC

We are so excited about our first Easter Worship Gathering as a new Church Body on April 8th!  Our schedule and location for that day will be different.  We will meet at 10:00am at Hilldale Baptist Church’s Picnic Pavilion located on Old Farmer’s Road (Click Here for a Map).  Once on Old Farmer’s Road, simply look for our blue “Community Life Church” signs.

Following our worship service, we will share a picnic lunch together.  CLC will provide the meat and drinks while we are asking for your help with sides and/or desserts.  If your food needs to be kept cold until it’s time to serve, you will want to bring it in a cooler.  Following lunch we will have an Egg Hunt for all the kiddos!

Feel free to dress comfortably and bring a frisbee or football!  Indoor bathroom facilities are available in case you would like to bring a change of clothes.

Work Out Your Salvation

As we dig into Philippians 2:12-30 tonight, we’ll tackle the question “what does it mean to work out our salvation?”.  John MacArthur offers this great and brief commentary on that very question.  Check it out!

Membership Covenant

The reason and process for church membership at Community Life Church will be presented to the body on Sunday, April 1.  This will be an exciting night in the life of our church and one which we have been working towards for many months now!  We want to encourage you to plan on attending this special worship gathering at 5pm at Grace Church of the Nazarene as we share the Member Covenant that will define and guide our relationships with each other as a local Body of Christ.
